Varanasi (Day 1)

Back to the city…..
Varanasi is essentially the religious capital of India.
For the Buddhists, the Jains, and most definitely for the Hindus.
It’s where Buddhism was founded, and where more than 1 million Hindus journey to each year to bathe in the Ganges.

Obligatory bridge photo… (from the overnight train ride to Varanasi)

Sitting in traffic (via cycle rickshaw)…

I LOVE the vegetable stalls!  (Don’t worry… didn’t eat any…)

Most common way to transport rebar…

Walking down the main street… talk about change of pace from Alipura…

Making our way to the Ganges river…

Boys flying/fighting kites…

Offering our wishes to the Mother Ganges…

Stayed on the water til sunset, when the daily ceremonies to Mother Ganga are held at the main ghats of the city.

Orchha & Alipura

The wonders continue.  The breathless moments.  Alipura is an even smaller village that we drove to in the evening.  Will have to share more about it later.

View over the bridge in Orchha…

Cooking class!  The food was SOOOO good….

Colorful rickshaws…

Ink powders at the market…

Goat!

From the rooftop of our palace hotel in Alipura….
