Christmas may have passed, but this is still my favorite Bitmoji outfit…
Big day!! Up at dawn for Disneyland with the fam, then ringing in the new year at Greg’s!
Is this really LA…?
Belated Christmas dinner with the big family. Drink treat!
Early Christmas dinner at the Krosses’…

Finishing the last of the holiday season goodies at work. Love the slogan on this peppermint bark tin!

Enjoying some leisure time this weekend – making a tiny model we got for Christmas from the Louies!
Such a cool Christmas gift from Wes and Jamie!
This magnet was on the closet door when we arrived in Abrams, so we left it behind for the next occupants.
Photo taken by our favorite Abrams neighbors. :)
Abrams’ holiday/snowflake tree :)
Really loving the honey we got from Chris and Jacqueline for Christmas! Collected by their neighbor down the street!
Loving the tablecloth Henning’s mom made us for Christmas!

(from the blackness of France, according to our GPS)
Found a really cute brewery-guesthouse in the Black Forest!

Also their blue flaming rum shot… :P
And bright pink floral suite. :)
Merry Christmas to everyone, from Switzerland!
Making huevos rancheros… a Christmas morning “tradition” with the Roedel family!
Lazing around… (also a tradition…)
Our awesome tree!
Gifts like these make me feel like a kid again. :)

I’m thankful for – Day #18 – Puzzles!!!!!
Christmas gift from Henning’s aunt Nancy’s family.
They know us too well….
This one was a real b…. challenge!
I’m thankful for – Day #11 – Henning’s family
Henning’s Aunt Nancy invited us to celebrate Christmas with them and some family friends in the neighborhood with a Nordic-themed holiday dinner. It was a lot of fun, and always great to see the Redwood City contingent of his fam.
I’m thankful for – Day #9 – The Holidays
Two great things about the holiday season—celebrating with friends and family (!!), and days off (so excited)!!!
Here are our “simple & sweet” holiday decorations for Apartment 703 this year… our lamppost tree… and our updated seasons wreath in the hall.
Perhaps next year will be more elaborate. :)
I’m thankful for – Day #7 – Henning’s coworkers
We went to dinner with Henning’s advisor Mike, his PI David, David’s family, and some of their lab mates. I think it’s great that David extends his time to the share with the lab outside of work. I know that Henning’s PhD experience wouldn’t be the same if he weren’t working with this group!
PS This building was designed by Julia Morgan, California’s first licensed female architect!
I’m thankful for – Day #6 – My high school friends
Look at the beautiful cake Mel brought to our annual reunion/Secret Santa gift exchange. Mel is definitely the mama bear of our group of 6. :)
What a cool day!
Henning had a surprise in store for me… a trip to the zoo!
And with our awesome neighbors! :)
GRIZZLY BEAR FEEED!!!
Bald eagle wingspan!
Polar bear sleeps like Penny!
Little Puffer steam train & Christmas tunnel!
More photos tomorrow…!
Something one of my coworkers brought in. As cute as it is (you can even see the mailbox!)… I am a strong believer that Christmas preparations start in December.
End of the holiday season, and it’s back to work. Thanks 2011!
Spent the day at Universal Studios with the fam. Merry Grinchmas!!
Stretching in the backyard. Penny lying next to me. Oranges in December. :)
Drove 1.5 hrs north with the boys to see Grandpa’s property in the middle of nowhere. Good experience, and a beautiful Christmas day.
Recovering from our huge Chinese dinner — Bri was this year’s Santa :)
The house is decorated and set up for our guests next week…
..and we’re off to grandma’s house in LA!
The winning group of this year’s Gingerbread House Decorating competition at wook… took the house apart to make “Occupy Welch Road” tents.
Preparing for tomorrow’s Christmas Sweater competition at work tomorrow. And Henning and my mom putting the star up on the tree (notice height difference)!
More holiday treats, this time courtesy the Stanford Hospital CFO…! Dangerous.
Spent a wonderful day at Target and in SF with Hannah, which ended in a Biggest Loser Season 12 marathon, and decorating cupcakes!
Happy hour at Old Pro – friends, football, beer, and holiday cheer!
I just found these photos on my mom’s camera from Christmas (when Henning and I were in Europe). I had to share! Penny looks excited doesn’t she… ;)
Back to the German-speaking world
(…and not understanding what’s going on around me…)
At least Santa is pretty universal!
Hen, Christiane and I took an afternoon walk to the St. Chrischona TV tower
on the eastern side of Basel (German border).
While the tower itself is not exactly aesthetic,
the walk down had some nice views.
Breakfast at the B&B, morning hike in Varzo, afternoon hike from Devero, with hot chocolate and cards at an oasis in Crampiolo.
Italian hot chocolate!
First things first… this is for Hannah!
Tremoços… good times. : )
Anyway, the group decided to spend the Christmas weekend in the Alps.
So we are en route to Varzo, Italy. It’s about 5 hours by car, weaving our way through the mountains and just across the border. The snow up here makes everything so beautiful. It’s pretty surreal.
Had great fun lounging with Becca at Big Basin Café and with Henning at the CIFE holiday party.
It’s so tough to pick ONE picture from each day.
Classic looks. In winter sweaters.
Driving Highway 46. The view was a bit overwhelming.
Hanging with Jes in San Luis Obispo, recently deemed the “happiest place in America.”
Went shopping for a blanket and board game this afternoon with Yumi and Michelle, and we came home instead with some wine, cheese and 9 reindeer hats! Above is the product of a few extra minutes of converting 8 Rudolph’s to “Other Reindeer.” Gotta love at-home arts-and-crafts time with the gals. Yes… we’re 24! Tomorrow night we’ll get the gang together and I’ll hopefully have a post displaying our collective Halloween (AND Christmas…hey!) spirit. : )
