New Shelves!

Happy February everyone!!

Henning has been working really hard on installing shelves in our bedroom against our concrete walls.  Here is the main shelving unit, along with our framed dragon-phoenix painting!

Also, I’ve finally finished posting photos from our cruise in Europe last August 2012, for anyone interested. Sorry it took so long… you’ve probably forgotten that even happened…

Puzzle Complete

Henning and I have been working at this Dragon & Tiger puzzle for the past 4 weeks.  On the purple mat, we’ve been able to roll it up and work on it wherever we want.  Tonight, we finished it (!) at Ray’s pub on campus.

I’d also like to be a star-struck 10-year-old and point out that Andrew Luck was sitting in that wooden chair behind it about 20 minutes before!

“Bonjour” from Basel!

Greetings from Switzerland!

“Bonjour” would actually be the WRONG language to use in Basel, even though French is one of Switzerland’s four national languages.  But I couldn’t think of anything else to name the post, and it’s a great intro into a geography lesson (for you and for me) on where I currently am.

Switzerland

Basel is located in the north of Switzerland (see maps), at the corner of France, Germany, and Switzerland.

As Wikipedia can tell you plenty, Basel is the third most populous city in Switzerland, and is in the German-speaking region of the country.  So as a greeting, I suppose it might be more appropriate to say Hallo, or Guten tag.

Christiane, Henning and I are here until Monday.
Here’s a picture of the wonderful room Henning and I are staying at on the little second level of Chris’ 4th floor apartment.  Notice the sunlight!!

Walking along the Rhine River.  In the back, there’s a huge oil tanker speeding down the river and impressively ducking under the bridge.

Trying water from the Basel basilisk fountain.  There are basilisks all around town.  They look like small dragons with chicken heads.  They are supposed to be able to kill with one glance.

Downtown Basel.  Basel Rathaus (‘red house’ or ‘city hall’) on the left, situated in front of the town market.  One of the nicer shopping streets is lit to the right of the Rathaus.

Christmas Market!  Had Glühwein, a warm spiced wine, for the first time.
Mmmm!

DSCN9640

Had dinner with Chris at Ueli Bier, a local brewery.  Had “beer fondue” with pretzels, and Christmas beer.  More mmm!  Also represented below: an advent calendar, a random purple glitter chair, and a restaurant with zero other women.  Too bad I couldn’t capture the stares.

Tomorrow, the Black Forest in the Dark Horse!
